Half Marathon Training Weeks 6 & 7 and Self-Care Sunday

Guys, I ran 5.5 miles today as part of my half marathon training plan, and let me tell you: the chafe is real. Pro tip: don’t wear a thong on your long runs.

Luckily, it’s Sunday, which means it’s time for my weekly “self-care Sunday” at home spa ritual. Basically, I love the spa, and I love facials. The first time I got a facial and saw how radiant and smooth my skin looked, I was hooked. The esthetician must have worked some black magic, because the big-ass pores on my nose looked smaller and cleaned out, and that alone is worth the price tag. Fellow big-ass nose pore ladies (and gents!), you know what I’m talking about. Unfortunately, my budget doesn’t allow for weekly spa facials, so I have learned to bring the spa home to me. I invested in a facial steamer, a nice facial scrub, an exfoliant, and various sheet masks so that I may have that relaxing spa experience in the comfort of my own home. And I sound like an ad, gross. I’m not schilling anything, I promise. I’m just saying that after chafing for 5.5 miles, I came home and treated myself BECAUSE I DESERVED IT. I also soaked in an epsom salt bath because that wizardry helps my legs recover after long/hard runs.

ANYway, here’s what my training looked like over the past couple of weeks:

Week 6

  • Monday: rest day
  • Tuesday: 2-mile recovery run (14’13” average pace according to Nike; 14’33” according to Garmin)
  • Wednesday: CrossFit
  • Thursday: 6x200m speed workout (8’25” according to Nike; 11’49” according to Garmin)
  • Friday: CrossFit
  • Saturday: CrossFit & Yoga
  • Sunday: 8x200m speed workout (9’19” according to Nike; 9’27” according to Garmin)

Week 7

  • Monday: Rest Day
  • Tuesday: 3.5-mile recovery run (14’03” according to Nike; 14’22” according to Garmin)
  • Wednesday: CrossFit
  • Thursday: 15-minute benchmark workout (13’15” according to Nike; 13’38” according to Garmin)
  • Friday: CrossFit
  • Saturday: CrossFit
  • Sunday: 5.50-mile long run (13’22” according to Nike; 13’45” according to Garmin)

And that’s it! I had to jerry-rig my CrossFit workouts this week due to my box (hopefully temporarily) closing. And by “box” I mean gym, you perv. It’s been alright, but fingers crossed the box opens next week, because the classes kick my ass a lot harder than I do on my own. #freectx
